Terim:

kote[1]

Kanji:

小手

Hiragana:

JJ こて

Açıklama:

小 (ko[2]) "küçük" + 手 (te[1]) "el, metot". Önkol.

Explanation:

小 (ko[2]) "small" + 手 (te[1]) "hand, method". Forearm.

Not:

Josh Reyer Aiki Web'deki bir tartışmada, harfiyen anlamı "küçük el" olan kote[1] kelimesinin önkol anlamında kullanılmasının sebebini, 手 (te[1]) kelimesinin eski anlamlarından birinin "kol" olmasına bağlıyor. Bu yoruma göre kolun dirsekten aşağıdaki, yani küçük kısmı "küçük kol"dur. Kote[2] ve kōte[3] ile karıştırılmamalıdır.

Note:

In a discussion on Aiki Web, Josh Reyer explains the reason of the usage of kote[1], which literally mean "small hand" in the sense of "forearm". Reyer's claims is that 手 (te[1]) previously meant "arm" and the smaller part of the arm, which is from elbow to the wrist, is called "small arm". Not to be confused with kote[2] and kōte[3].
